Mandela a walk to remember

So all this hype on Mandela. Why? Is it because he fought for his people? maybe, but surely he is not the only one, actually there are many who might have done more work than him, arguably. Is it that he was a great lawyer , maybe but ofcourse not the best the world had ever seen. Is it beacuse he was the best orator, not exactly, we have Obama, Mugabe, and suprisingly Hitler is one of the best ever orators. Even in the ANC, there are lots who had a more slick tongue than him. So what is it that made Mandela special? I think this an important question that every sane person must ask. So that in a generation we wont have only one Mandela, but children will know what it is to be Mandela. I am one of those that believe that anything obvious must be questioned. I believe that is how the world has developed and progressed. Is it his great parenting skills and his stable mariages. Not even that . He himself often lamented that he had caused so much pain to his mariage and family because of the choices he made. Well, reconcilliation maybe?Well to a certain extend yes, but sure that cant be all, that makes a man this celebrated. He is not the only one who has offered reconcilliation but the way. So what makes him special? I want to suggest that yes its mainly reconcilliation, but even more than it. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, " nearly all many can stand advesrity, but if you want to test a man's character give him power". I think this is what sums up Mandela's greatness. Mandela was given absolute power and position to deal with his enemies, get back on life and say I spend 27 years in prison so I must do atleast 30 at the helm. Mandela was tasted with the sweeteness and addiction of power and he withstood the test that many greats have failed to withstand. That is what distinguishes him. Not the robben islands, but life after robben islands. life well lived Mandela.
